I recently lost my best friend. My cat Grell was 8 and sadly passed away just a few weeks ago, she was torture, kept us up most nights but I loved her with all my heart and her loss has been hard. We have had many cats over the years, and now we have the space to give someone else they’re forever home. While Grell will always be my first pet and I can't replace her, I know there are too many animals that need a home and I have to help!

Adopting process

Adopt don't shop has to be the most important message here. The animal sanctuary's here in Northern Ireland do amazing work and they need as much support as they can get.

I’m currently in talks with cat’s protection to find me a purrfect match. The important thing here is patience...which I definitely do not have a lot of. It's so important that the cat I get is going to fit in to our home environment, settle on with our resident cat and have a happy life!

As soon as someone is ready for me , I want to be ready for them so that means getting the house cat ready. We also have another cat in the house, Kofi my mums Siamese. So the house needs to be safe for new friends to come in.

Preparation

Have a separate room for them to come into and live in for the first few days plenty of blankets and toys so they’re comfortable food that they are used to Introducing Kofi to any other cats is going to be quite the struggle but I’m sure he can do it if we bring them together correctly. This will be a long process of scent swapping and slow introductions. Scent swapping Swapping kofi's bed and the new cats bed every few nights for a while will get both accustomed to the others smell. Letting them see each other We have some handy glass doors in our house, we are going to let them see each other through the glass and judge how they both react. Positive association It's important that both cats think well of the other! Any time they interact reward both with plenty of treats or wait until dinner time and feed them right after. This way both cats will be distracted by the food and will help them relax in the presence of the other.

What now?

So this is all the theory. I've researched, I've owned cat's for years now...all I can do now is wait for a match and hope for the best! If anyone has any more tips on introducing cats I would love to hear them! I will be posting updates on this site for new arrivals!

In loving memory ❤️ thank you for being my friend.
